Georgia Power customers see $50 annual bill cut after Georgia PSC rate vote
The Georgia Public Service Commission approved a rate plan that will reduce residential electricity bills for Georgia Power customers by $4.04 monthly, or about $50 annually, effective immediately. The decision, announced on May 29, 2026, is expected to deliver $285 million in annual savings across the utility's customer base. The vote follows a stipulated agreement between Georgia Power and the commission's Public Interest Advocacy Staff on two proceedings: fuel-cost recovery and storm-cost recovery. The utility had sought to recoup expenses tied to power-plant fuel and storm restoration, including work after Hurricane Helene in 2024. Georgia Power said customer growth, including demand from data centers and manufacturers, is helping spread fixed costs over a larger customer base. The company also pointed to a prior base-rate freeze and projected an additional $102 in yearly savings for a typical residential customer starting in 2029.
