U.S. equity futures rose on September 21, 2026, lifted by a sharp drop in crude oil as investors positioned for a summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Dow futures gained 407 points, or 0.8%, while S&P 500 futures added 0.7% and Nasdaq-100 futures climbed 1.1%, rebounding from the Dow's 1.7% weekly loss, its steepest since March. West Texas Intermediate crude fell more than 3% to $97.09 a barrel and Brent lost over 3% to near $101, heading for a fourth straight daily decline. The 10-year Treasury yield slipped more than 3 basis points to 4.957%. Sunday's preliminary U.S.-China talks in New York focused on artificial intelligence. The Trump-Xi agenda is expected to cover tariffs, critical minerals and AI, following the Federal Reserve's first rate hike in three years. JPMorgan noted oil flows "remain surprisingly strong" despite Middle East disruptions.
