Major US indexes opened lower Wednesday, September 23, 2026, as oil snapped its longest losing streak of the year and Treasury yields rose. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 142.42 points, or 0.27%, to 51,721.27. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 116.18 points, or 0.43%, to 27,128.10, and the S&P 500 declined 21.02 points, or 0.27%, to 7,743.62. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index slid 1.46%, while TSMC's ADR lost 0.80% to $448.36. Brent crude rose 1.11% to $96.47 a barrel, halting a five-day slide, and the 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 4.98%. The dollar index reached 100.87 as investors awaited US-Iran talks on ending the Middle East conflict and a Trump-Xi meeting, weighing the risk that costlier energy revives inflation and forces the Fed to raise rates. Markets also assessed a mixed batch of corporate news. Worthington Enterprises gained after beating quarterly estimates, KB Home fell on weak delivery guidance, and IonQ rose on a quantum error-correction test.
