Smurfit Westrock to Acquire CMPC's Chilean Containerboard Unit for $420 Million

Smurfit Westrock plc (SW) announced on Sept. 23, 2026, an agreement to acquire the Chilean containerboard and corrugated business of Empresas CMPC S.A. (CMPC.SN) for $420 million. The transaction expands the paper and packaging manufacturer's footprint in Latin America, adding CMPC's Chilean corrugated operations to its existing network. The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms beyond the purchase price were not disclosed.
