Target Cuts Prices on 2,000 Products as Consumer Sentiment Hits Four-Month Low
Target (NYSE: TGT) reduced prices on about 2,000 home, apparel and accessories products, the retailer announced Tuesday, extending a year-long discount push as shoppers grow more price-conscious. Apparel cuts include women's long-sleeve T-shirts falling to $12 from $15, while average prices for kids' rain and winter boots dropped 15% year over year. Home reductions cover bedding from private labels Threshold and Room Essentials. Pricing and availability vary by location, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. The move brings Target's total price cuts to roughly 10,000 over the past year, following reductions on about 3,000 products in March. Chief Merchandising Officer Cara Sylvester said the company aims to remain competitive on price while adding affordable options. The cuts come as University of Michigan data released Friday showed consumer sentiment fell in September to a four-month low, pressured by higher fuel costs and new U.S. trade disputes. Target's October Circle Deal Days event will discount holiday decor and toys, competing with Amazon's Big Deal Days.
