BlackRock Overhauls TLTW Covered Call ETF, Adopts Weekly Options Ladder
BlackRock is restructuring the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond BuyWrite Strategy ETF (TLTW), renaming it the iShares TLT Premium Income+ ETF and shifting its index methodology from a single monthly options roll to a four-tranche weekly laddered structure. Under the new framework, 25% of the fund's written calls expire and roll each week across 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-week maturities. The change addresses path dependency in the prior methodology, which sold one-month, 2% out-of-the-money calls on TLT in a single monthly roll. That structure capped upside for a full month during bond rallies while leaving the fund fully exposed to downside if yields spiked. Weekly strikes now reset at higher prices during rallies, capture elevated premiums when implied volatility rises around economic releases and Federal Reserve commentary, and reduce distribution volatility for income investors.
