Toyota Motor Corp. reported on May 28, 2026 that worldwide sales fell 3.7% in April from a year earlier, halting five consecutive months of gains. The Japanese automaker sold 788,183 vehicles globally last month, dragged down by weaker demand in China and Japan. This marked the first decline since October 2025. Global production, including subsidiaries Daihatsu and Hino, slipped 2.1% to 793,038 units. The company did not provide an updated annual outlook. The results underscore persistent challenges in China, where intense price competition and a consumer shift toward electric vehicles have pressured foreign brands.
