Trimble Says Freight Unit Sale Review Ongoing, Unveils AI Freight Tools at Insight 2026
Trimble (Nasdaq: TRMB) said its strategic review of its transportation and logistics business remains ongoing, with CEO Rob Painter confirming multiple outside parties still hold interest in the unit. No timetable or outcome has been announced. The review began in August with Goldman Sachs as financial adviser after credible, unsolicited inbound interest. "This is a Trimble business and let's say until it's not," Painter said at the company's Insight 2026 conference in San Diego on September 28, 2026. He declined to rule out a spinoff or sale, calling the unit a scarce asset with distinctive technology. Trimble simultaneously unveiled AI-driven freight technologies, including voice AI, route and trailer orchestration, and Arc Agent, a multi-skill AI agent that operates across freight processes. Painter said Trimble spends tens of millions annually on cyber resilience amid customer data governance concerns.
