TC Energy is proceeding with Phase 2 of its Coastal GasLink pipeline after LNG Canada and its joint venture partners reached a final investment decision to expand the British Columbia export facility, the company said on September 29, 2026. The expansion will nearly double the line's current capacity of roughly 2.1 billion cubic feet per day by adding compressor stations and upgrading existing infrastructure along the 670-kilometer corridor, avoiding construction of a new route. Work is expected to begin in early 2027, with service targeted for the early 2030s. LNG Canada will serve as execution manager under commercial agreements reached earlier in 2026. Coastal GasLink retains ownership, operator and permit-holder status, while TC Energy provides technical, procurement and operational support. The structure limits Coastal GasLink's direct capital commitments and reduces construction cost and schedule exposure. TC Energy estimates up to 2,100 workers at five sites during peak construction. The original project generated about 25,700 full-time-equivalent jobs and awarded more than C$1.8 billion in contracts to Indigenous and local businesses.
