California commercial fleets are returning to heavy-duty electric vehicle adoption despite federal regulatory rollbacks, driven by strong real-world performance from the second-generation Tesla Semi, Zeem Solutions CEO Paul Gioupis said on May 29, 2026. The vehicle is consistently topping 400 miles on a full charge, helping erase skepticism and fueling what Gioupis calls an inflection point year for the sector. Many operators in the state now recognize the California Air Resources Board will continue to enforce decarbonization mandates, pushing them to stick with electrification plans. Zeem has been buying Tesla Semis for its own fleet and customers since December, and developed skidded 2.5-megawatt charging building blocks that bypass traditional construction and outdated utility interconnection requirements. The firm is seeing large fleets move toward bundled 10-year contracts that combine trucks, on-site infrastructure, and service, a shift Gioupis believes will permanently alter logistics. Utilities are beginning to offer flexible rates that reward predictable nighttime charging, and truck batteries may eventually provide grid services or reduce peak-shaving costs for food haulers with heavy cold-storage electricity bills.
