Tesla China Deliveries Surge 39% in May, Seventh Consecutive Year-Over-Year Increase (TSLA)
Tesla Inc. (TSLA) reported that its Shanghai factory delivered 85,982 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in May, a 39.4% jump from a year earlier and an 8.2% gain from April, extending a streak of seven straight year-over-year monthly increases, according to China Passenger Car Association data released on June 2, 2026. The tally, which covers domestic sales and exports to markets including Europe, signals demand is stabilizing. European registrations also improved in May, supporting the recovery. Competition from Chinese rival BYD Co. is intensifying, however, as the company expands overseas and accelerates smart-driving capabilities. BYD unveiled a one-year accident-coverage guarantee for its urban navigation assist system, while Tesla’s most advanced driver-assist feature still awaits Chinese regulatory approval, raising concerns about its competitive edge.
