Tesla (TSLA) Robotaxis Post Significantly Safer Driving Records Than Humans
Bank of America Securities analyst Alexander Perry reports autonomous vehicles (AVs) from Tesla (TSLA) and Alphabet's (GOOGL) Waymo demonstrate significantly superior safety records compared to human drivers, addressing a major concern for Robotaxi services. Tesla averages one reportable accident per 101,000 miles, while Waymo records one per 108,000 miles. This data contrasts sharply with human drivers, who average one serious accident every 1.9 million miles. Waymo's figures show one serious accident per 19.3 million miles, approximately 90% lower than human drivers, and Tesla has reported no major injury accidents to date. Despite 47% of consumers still distrusting AVs, these early safety figures provide a significant positive for Tesla, which has heavily invested in its Robotaxi future. Tesla operates 69 Robotaxi vehicles in four U.S. cities as of June 16, 2026, and its stock closed at $400.49 on June 18, 2026.
