Tata Motors (TTM) said Friday that its domestic passenger vehicle sales surged 42% in May, driven by robust demand for its electric vehicles and SUVs, signaling a recovery in the world's third-largest auto market. The Indian automaker sold 44,270 passenger vehicles last month, up from 31,178 in the same month a year earlier, according to a regulatory filing on June 1, 2026. Electric vehicle sales more than doubled to a record 6,600 units, making up 15% of total passenger vehicle sales. Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, attributed the growth to new model launches and improving semiconductor supplies. The company's commercial vehicle segment also reported a 5% rise in domestic sales during the period.
