Turkey's Capital Markets Board (SPK) said Sept 23, 2026 that 455,758 individual investors hold stakes in over 100 Turkish investment funds worth approximately $18 billion ordered liquidated during a market selloff. Authorities last week introduced measures to boost lira liquidity and ease capital and margin requirements after some funds struggled to meet redemptions during a stock market decline. The SPK cited central securities depository records for the investor figure. Separately, prosecutors widened a criminal investigation after the SPK filed complaints over transactions in shares of Katilimevim, Gundogdu Gida and Destek Finans. Turkish media reported five detainees appeared in court on Wednesday and were jailed pending trial. The Justice Ministry said Tuesday that suspects face charges including violating Turkey's capital markets law, criminal organization membership and aggravated fraud.
