United Airlines launched a tiered status match campaign on Oct. 2, 2026, offering Delta Air Lines and American Airlines elite frequent flyers equivalent MileagePlus status for 90 days, with retention through Jan. 31, 2028, contingent on spending thresholds. Entry-level elites (Delta Silver Medallion or American Gold) must spend $1,500 on United mainline or regional flights within 90 days; matching United's 1K tier requires $7,000. United is promoting its SpaceX Starlink Wi-Fi, free to MileagePlus members, as a key draw, though the rollout is incomplete. Both rivals operate their own match programs. American extends matches to Southwest, JetBlue, Delta and United elites for at least four months. Delta plans to shift free Wi-Fi to Amazon's Project Kuiper. The push reflects intensifying competition among the three carriers for high-spending travelers, with investments in lounges, premium cabins and international expansion.
