Walmart Expands Digital Shelf Label Features Chainwide Ahead of Holiday Season

Walmart is rolling out three digital shelf label features — Shop to Light, Pick to Light and Stock to Light — to all U.S. stores before the holiday season, extending a program already deployed at more than 4,300 locations. Shop to Light lets customers pull up a product in the Walmart app and trigger a flashing light on the shelf label to locate it; the tool has logged 5 million customer flashes since a limited summer launch, said Greg Cathey, senior vice president of digital transformation. Pick to Light and Stock to Light apply the same mechanism for online order picking and inventory replenishment. Walmart expects digital shelf labels installed chainwide by year-end, with about 90% of in-store sections already equipped. Prices update overnight with human oversight. The technology has drawn scrutiny over dynamic pricing. New Jersey and other states have passed restrictions; Walmart dismissed the measures as an "overreaction," saying labels are not used for surveillance pricing.
