Apple's (AAPL) first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, has drawn consumer reports of screen failures within its first week of sale, with widely circulated cases at a Shanghai Apple Store and from an Australian user on Reddit. Users report creaking at the fold after only several to a few dozen folds, followed by 3-5 cm cracks with white pixel bands and dark spots. An iFixit teardown suggests the hinge's central support bar may fail to retract when closed, applying excess pressure on the display, while a curved guide rail could also interfere with the screen. A Foxconn (2317-TW) employee said the cause broadly matches that analysis and that Apple had lowered yield quality-control standards to maintain supply amid tight capacity. The employee said the iPhone Duo line has urgently replaced a batch of materials, with actual production unaffected and stocking plans unchanged. Channel sources said Apple plans about 7.5 million units this year.
