Sony has transferred 419 extended reality patents to Meta, a deal that could complicate Apple's gaming ambitions for Vision Pro, AppleInsider reported. The agreement, signed in December 2025, covers 180 U.S. patents and 239 related applications in Japan, China, South Korea and Europe, spanning XR computing, headset design and hardware. ZDNet Korea reported on October 5 that U.S. Patent and Trademark Office records showed 43 U.S. patents transferred to Meta between June and September. Neither company publicly announced the transaction. The concern for Apple centers on the PS VR2 Sense controllers, which Vision Pro has supported since visionOS 26. Apple has sold the controller and charging dock bundle on its U.S. online store for $249.95 since November 11, 2025. PS VR2 hardware supply has been tight, with reports of halted production, though PlayStation has not confirmed a discontinuation. If Sony stops supplying the accessories and inventory runs out, new Vision Pro users could struggle to obtain controllers, hampering Apple's VR gaming push.
