Apple to Buy Up to $100M in US Titanium From Perryman for Foldable iPhone; TSMC Arizona to Supply Over 100M Chips
Apple (AAPL) said Tuesday it will purchase up to $100 million of titanium over three years from Pennsylvania-based supplier Perryman Company, material slated for its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, and other products. The company also said TSMC's (2330-TW) Arizona plant will produce more than 100 million chips for Apple this year. Under the agreement, Perryman will produce titanium containing at least 80% recycled content in Pennsylvania, reducing reliance on imported primary titanium. The move follows the 2024 closure of the last US commercial titanium sponge plant, which widened a domestic raw-material gap. Apple said nearly 100 components for the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro are made by US companies across more than 12 states. It added that Qnity Electronics will supply thin-film materials for the iPhone 18 Pro's variable-aperture camera, and that Corning's Kentucky plant will make all cover glass for iPhones and Apple Watches sold globally by year-end. Apple has pledged $600 billion over four years to support US manufacturing.
