Apple's Foldable iPhone Duo Draws Complaints of Inner Screen Cracking Within Days of Launch
Apple Inc.'s iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable phone, is drawing customer complaints that the inner display cracked after just hours or days of use, with users reporting a crunching sound when unfolding followed by a crack along the center crease. Apple acknowledged the issue, saying it was "aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units" and directing affected users to contact AppleCare for a replacement. The company said most Duos are unaffected and that impacted units exhibit the defect quickly. The Duo, which went on sale Friday and starts at $1,999, represents Apple's biggest-ever design change to the iPhone, its largest revenue source. Repair platform iFixit said it believes the issue stems from a failing hinge component cracking the screen rather than a defect in the display panel itself. Apple has not provided official guidance to retail stores, though a team is investigating, and engineers are seeking affected devices for analysis.
