Most Americans are willing to let a bank's artificial intelligence assistant complete at least one financial task on their behalf, but far fewer would cede control over spending, according to a survey of 1,008 people by TD Bank U.S. Fraud detection drew the strongest support, with 68% of respondents comfortable with banks using AI to spot potential fraud and send alerts. Half said they trust AI-powered tools to protect their money and financial information from cyber threats. Support fell for day-to-day tasks: 38% would let an assistant flag better products or rates, 31% would use it to avoid overdraft charges and 27% would let it pay recurring bills. About 49% of respondents had used an AI assistant in the past year to research or make a financial decision, and 83% of those double-checked its suggestions with another source or a professional. When asked what would raise confidence, 36% cited human review of major decisions, while three safeguards — reaching a human, privacy protections and clear accountability — tied at 31%.
