Accenture began centrally funding $29 per person per month for Claude on Oct. 1, charging any excess to individual projects, according to an internal announcement obtained by 404 Media. Internal messages showed employees who had been spending $500 to $1,000 monthly, and one who said access was revoked entirely. Accenture disputed reporting that it imposed a firm limit on AI tool access. The distinction matters financially: fixed-price contracts account for more than 65% of Accenture's bookings, so token costs hit its own margin. Accenture's own guidance noted that in nearly every deployment it examined, fewer than 10% of users and workflows drive the vast majority of the bill, and that requests to lift individual spending limits arrive by the hundreds daily in some environments. The article argues companies should measure the cost of finished work rather than consumption. A typical office worker using 1.3 million tokens monthly spends roughly $6, while intensive agent users can consume 50,000 to 500,000 tokens per task. A Jellyfish study of 12,000 developers found per-job token costs ranging from 28 cents to $89.
