Alamar Biosciences (ALMR) said researchers at Emory University identified a 10-protein blood signature that distinguished amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients from healthy individuals with 98.3% balanced accuracy in an independent validation cohort, using the company's NULISA protein analysis technology. The findings were published in Nature Communications. The signature was developed from plasma samples of 632 ALS patients and 160 healthy controls, then tested in a separate cohort of 144 ALS patients and 37 healthy controls, where it achieved an area under the curve of 0.992. Neurofilament light chain alone, an established blood biomarker of nerve-cell damage, posted 89.9% balanced accuracy and an AUC of 0.916. The panel combines NFL, NEFH, pTau-181 and VEGFA with six proteins not previously reported as ALS blood biomarkers. Alamar cautioned the signature remains a research finding and has not been validated as a clinical screening or diagnostic test. ALMR closed Wednesday at $34.30, up 7.42%, and traded at $34.15 overnight.
