AMD CEO Su Says Chip Demand Outpaces Supply, Urges AI Industry Cooperation on Safety
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. CEO Lisa Su said Tuesday that chip demand is outpacing supply and will remain "very high" for years, even as the industry confronts AI safety concerns. She urged leading artificial intelligence companies to cooperate on ensuring the technology causes no harm. "We have also increased our own supply and capacity in 2026, but I can say that the demand is even higher than our supply," Su told reporters in Taipei during a trip to visit supply chain partners including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. "We are going to substantially increase our supply in 2027, but we can definitely use more." Su's outlook echoes bullish signals from Micron Technology Inc. and better-than-expected quarterly sales from Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., though some investors worry about overcapacity, rising debt and regulatory setbacks. The Santa Clara, California-based chipmaker reached a trillion-dollar market capitalization last month and recently agreed to acquire AI startup World Labs for $8.2 billion.
