Amazon CEO Jassy Says Prime Video Nears Tens of Billions in Revenue, Turns Profitable
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said Thursday that Prime Video is on track to generate a revenue run rate in the tens of billions of dollars and is now profitable in its own right, offering a new financial detail beyond his May disclosure that the streaming unit had turned a profit. Amazon MGM Studios has booked more than $1.2 billion in global box office sales this year, aided by "Project Hail Mary," which grossed an estimated $684 million worldwide and became the studio's highest-grossing release. Jassy also cited TV hits including "Reacher," whose fourth season drew 66 million global viewers in its first 28 days, with a fifth season filming and a sixth ordered. Sports remain a key driver. The first six "Thursday Night Football" games averaged 17.7 million viewers, up 16% year over year, per Nielsen data Amazon shared, while the second season of NBA on Prime drew over 2 million viewers. Amazon bought MGM for $8.5 billion four years ago.
