Amazon to Hire Over 300,000 Seasonal Workers for Holiday Season, Adds Day-One Health Coverage
Amazon said Tuesday, Oct. 20, it will hire more than 300,000 people for seasonal, part-time and full-time roles across its U.S. core operations this holiday season. Starting Jan. 1, 2027, seasonal employees working at least 30 hours per week will receive healthcare coverage on their first day. Seasonal workers earn an average of $20 an hour, while full-time core operations employees start at a minimum of $20 an hour, with average hourly pay across that workforce near $24, the company said. Eligible employees hired before Jan. 1 gain coverage on that date; those hired on or after receive it on their first day. J. Ofori Agboka, vice president of people experience and technology for global operations, said first-day healthcare is rare for the industry but has been offered to regular full-time employees for several years. Amazon also recently introduced an employee grocery discount of 10% online and 20% in-store at Whole Foods Market, combinable with Prime discounts. New roles will be posted weekly from October through December at amazon.com/localjobs.
