Whole Foods signed a lease for a 10,000-square-foot Daily Shop store at 2280 North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago's Logan Square, near a CTA Blue Line station, signaling a shift toward smaller stores in dense urban neighborhoods. The site was formerly a Family Dollar that closed in 2023. Chicago-based Shapack Partners bought it earlier this year from Supera Asset Management for $5.5 million. Supera sold a portion, mostly parking lot, to the Chicago Transit Authority for new staircase and ramp construction at the California station. Shapack also bought the adjacent Dollar Tree site at 2250 North Milwaukee Avenue for $2.2 million and is marketing that 10,000-square-foot building to retailers. The Daily Shop format uses a smaller footprint than Whole Foods' standard grocery stores and targets high-traffic transit areas. The grocer said earlier this year it would place the smaller stores in Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago, including sites at 1200 North Ashland Avenue, 1639 North Wells Street and West Belmont Avenue at North Halsted Street.
