Broadcom Signs 10-Year Private Cloud Deal With NTT DOCOMO; VMware Software and Support Pact Extended
Broadcom (AVGO) said October 19 it signed a 10-year agreement with Japanese telecom operator NTT DOCOMO covering VMware software licensing, technical assistance and maintenance support for the private cloud underpinning DOCOMO's digital services. Broadcom called it its first comprehensive 10-year agreement of this kind in Japan. The companies did not disclose the contract value. The deal extends a private cloud build-and-operate relationship dating to 2019, centered on VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). The parties will align long-term technology roadmaps to unify management of server, storage and network resources and run virtual machines and containers on a single platform, laying groundwork for AI workloads. For DOCOMO, the focus is service continuity and faster feature rollout. Planned work includes non-disruptive system upgrades and maintenance, usage-based automatic resource allocation to handle traffic peaks, and security improvements through patch updates, anomaly detection and dedicated support. Development, testing and release processes will be automated to shorten service launch cycles. The agreement did not disclose licensing scale, payment terms or expected revenue contribution. The companies will continue AI-assisted operations and prepare for expanded AI use and 6G.
