AstraZeneca (AZN) opened an 18-story, 570,000-square-foot research and development center at 290 Binney Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on October 5, 2026, part of a investment exceeding $1 billion in the state. The company said the site will expand its Massachusetts workforce by more than 50% in coming years. Ten floors are dedicated to laboratory space equipped with robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence. Combined with its genomic medicine site at 100 Binney Street, the two campuses will host nearly 2,000 researchers focused on cancer, chronic and rare diseases, and cell therapies. The investment is part of a broader $50 billion U.S. commitment. AstraZeneca listed shares on the NYSE earlier this year, and the U.S. accounted for 42% of first-half 2026 sales. The opening follows reported merger talks with Bristol Myers Squibb that sources said may not result in a deal.
