Apple Taps Alibaba's Qwen for China Apple Intelligence, Beta Testing Starts November 4
Apple (AAPL) said October 31 it will integrate Alibaba's (BABA) Qwen AI model into Apple Intelligence for China, with developer beta testing beginning November 4 and a full release expected in December alongside iOS 27.3. Qwen will power Siri queries, system-wide writing tools and Visual Intelligence, letting users process documents, photos and on-screen objects without opening a separate AI app. Users must sign in with a Qwen account or Apple account, and Alibaba said requests and responses will not be used for model training. The first China release also includes live translation, a photo Clean Up tool, notification summaries and priority email sorting. Apple said the rollout excludes the next-generation AI Siri unveiled at WWDC 2026. The partnership reflects Apple's need for a local AI partner to meet China's regulatory approval requirements. For Alibaba, the deal extends Qwen's reach across high-frequency iPhone use cases.
