President Trump said Friday that the U.S. is investigating whether North Korean hackers were behind a $6.3 billion theft from Binance, the largest crypto exchange, calling it the biggest heist in the digital-asset industry's history. "We don't know yet. We're looking into it," Trump said in the Oval Office when asked whether Pyongyang should be blamed. Binance has suspended withdrawals and pledged to cover all losses. The exchange said about $3 billion in assets has been frozen on blockchain networks, and co-founder Yi He said withdrawals are expected to resume by Sunday. Trump said Binance told him the situation is "largely under control." North Korean hacker groups have repeatedly targeted crypto firms, according to the FBI and security researchers. The incident comes as Binance, which has ties to Trump family-linked ventures, faces heightened scrutiny over hacking risks in the AI era and sets back an industry benefiting from deregulatory momentum. Trump commuted former CEO Changpeng Zhao's sentence in 2025.
