Mt. Gox Trustee Delays Repayment Deadline to October 2027 as $2.8B in Bitcoin Remains
Mt. Gox's rehabilitation trustee extended the deadline for repaying creditors to October 31, 2027, the fourth annual pushback, citing incomplete procedures and processing issues. The court approved the change, previously set for October 31 of this year. Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi said base, early lump-sum and intermediate repayments are largely complete for creditors who finished required procedures without problems. Many creditors remain unpaid because they have not completed those procedures, and a "considerable number" were affected by process issues. Wallets tied to the defunct exchange hold about 34,388 BTC, worth roughly $2.8 billion, per Arkham. No transfers have occurred since June, when 10,422.65 BTC, then worth more than $739 million, moved from cold storage to a new wallet without indicating a sale. Mt. Gox collapsed in 2014 with roughly 850,000 BTC missing; a Tokyo court approved its rehabilitation plan in 2021.
