Alphabet's Google signed a 20-year power purchase agreement Tuesday with Constellation Energy, which will invest $4.3 billion to upgrade 11 nuclear units across Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The contracted revenue funds upgrades adding 890 megawatts of new capacity — roughly one new reactor's output — delivered to the PJM Interconnection grid in phases from 2028 through 2032, the companies said. The deal is the latest from Big Tech to fund nuclear generating capacity for its expanding data-center buildout. Amazon signed a similar agreement with Constellation in Maryland last week, while Meta has deals to keep plants running in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Illinois. Microsoft is buying power from Constellation's Three Mile Island restart in Pennsylvania. Extensions and restarts of aging reactors require far less time and capital than new nuclear construction.
