SpaceX AI Cloud Revenue Surges 830% but 63x Price-to-Sales Ratio Raises Valuation Questions
SpaceX's AI business revenue surged 830% year-over-year to $7.56 billion, now comprising 52% of consolidated revenue, up from 15% a year earlier, according to an InvestAi Capital newsletter. The shift has transformed the rocket company into a neocloud provider—renting AI compute clusters to enterprises—but its 63x price-to-sales ratio dwarfs peers like CoreWeave (CRWV-US) at roughly 3.7x. The company spent $16.4 billion in quarterly capital expenditure to build the division. At 63x sales, SpaceX carries a market capitalization equal to about 71% of Amazon's (AMZN-US) despite generating only about 4% of its revenue, according to The Wall Street Republic. Forward estimates offer a less extreme picture: about 34x annualized on third-quarter revenue, falling to roughly 20x if SpaceX hits a $100 billion revenue target. Analysts flag concentration risk. A single AI customer accounted for 19.5% of second-quarter revenue, and CFA Leaf Ye estimated in an October 20 analysis that about 75% of third-quarter AI revenue came from short-term, spot-priced GPU rentals to a few AI labs—business that may warrant neocloud multiples of 4-7x rather than software-style valuations. Gartner projects over 80% of neocloud providers will cease independent operations by 2030.
