Musk Warns Over 200 Neoclouds Face "Guppy-Level Die-Off" as UBS Flags Advantages for CoreWeave, Nebius
Elon Musk warned that more than 200 neocloud providers face a "guppy-level die-off" and consolidation as debt markets shut out AI data center operators lacking substantial revenue beyond AI infrastructure. UBS countered that large players like CoreWeave (CRWV) and Nebius (NBIS) retain alternative funding channels, stronger customer credit profiles and Nvidia backing. Musk's post on X last Sunday said the debt market has effectively closed to companies without meaningful non-data-center revenue. The remarks added pressure on neocloud shares, which closed mixed: CoreWeave rose about 1.8%, IREN gained 2.1% and Nebius fell 3.5%. Over the past month, CoreWeave and Nebius have each dropped more than 30%, while IREN has fallen 40%. UBS analyst Karl Keirstead said CoreWeave could reduce reliance on external debt through private credit, vendor financing or larger equity sales, citing Nebius's $3.5 billion Citigroup credit facility. He kept a "Buy" rating but cut his price target to $105 from $120. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said demand from neoclouds is "off the charts," with working capital the constraint.
