DBS Survey Finds 88% of Global Businesses Deploying or Piloting Tokenised Money
Nearly 90% of global businesses have deployed or are piloting tokenised money use cases, according to a DBS survey of 422 business and finance leaders across 11 markets, the Singapore bank said. Lim Soon Chong, DBS group head of global transaction services, said adoption is moving faster than expected as firms seek better liquidity management and access to new markets. The survey, conducted between June and July, polled organisations with annual revenue exceeding $500 million in markets including the US, UK, Australia, China and Germany. Roughly two-thirds of respondents said they had fully deployed tokenised money at scale or begun using it in selected locations. Stablecoins were the most widely adopted instrument at 63%, followed by tokenised deposits at 53% and tokenised money market funds at 52%. Lim attributed stablecoin uptake to better fungibility across payment intermediaries and fewer permissioning hurdles. Southeast Asia ranked as the top destination for market expansion, followed by Australia and New Zealand, with India third. More than half of respondents in Australia and the UK said they were considering using the Chinese renminbi for trade settlement over the next one to two years, a trend DBS expects to continue as Beijing pushes internationalisation.
