DoorDash agreed to acquire Instacart for $17 billion, a deal the companies announced Oct. 29 that will combine two major U.S. delivery platforms and consolidate their memberships under a single fee. The companies set the closing price on Oct. 22. DoorDash said the transaction is expected to be finalized at the end of 2027 or in the first half of 2028, and that it will likely retain Instacart's brand, technology products and app. DoorDash said customers will gain access to nearly 100,000 stores on the Instacart app and more than 50,000 through DoorDash, plus a single membership covering DashPass and Instacart+. The company estimated the combined membership would save customers about $100 million per year. Instacart CEO Chris Rogers said pairing Instacart's grocery technology with DoorDash's reach can make online grocery "more seamless and affordable." DoorDash has held more than two-thirds of the U.S. food delivery market since 2024, exceeding Uber Eats and Grubhub, Bloomberg reported.
