Alpha Tau Medical (DRTS) said it signed a memorandum of understanding with Samsung Medical Center in Seoul to explore a potential clinical trial of its Alpha DaRT therapy in pancreatic cancer patients, which would be the treatment's first potential trial in South Korea. Any study would require regulatory and ethics committee approvals. The company cited 9,748 pancreatic cancer diagnoses in South Korea in 2023 and a five-year relative survival rate of 17%. Samsung Medical Center's Pancreatobiliary Cancer Center performed more than 4,000 pancreatectomies for the disease between 2008 and 2025. Alpha DaRT places radium-224-impregnated sources inside solid tumors; decaying radium releases short-lived daughter atoms that emit high-energy alpha particles intended to destroy tumor cells while limiting damage to healthy tissue. CEO Uzi Sofer said the agreement advances the company's international pancreatic cancer program, which could potentially span six countries. DRTS was trading at $12.84, down 4.76%.
