The Jaecoo 7, a sport-utility vehicle built by China's Chery Automobile, was the U.K.'s best-selling new car in September 2026, the second time this year it has led monthly registrations, according to Autocar. The SUV recorded 10,813 units, ahead of the Tesla Model 3 at 9,929 and the Ford Puma at 6,958. Chinese brands collectively took 23% of the U.K. market in September. The broader new car market grew 12.0% to 350,536 units, a tenth consecutive month of growth and the strongest September since 2017, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said. Chery's total U.K. sales through September more than tripled year-on-year, surpassing Ford, with nearly 87,000 vehicles sold under the Jaecoo and Omoda nameplates. BYD ranked second overall with 20,140 registrations, as its September global sales rose 17% to 463,561 units. Chery and Nissan have reached a preliminary agreement to explore building Chery models at Nissan's Sunderland plant.
