The U.S. dollar held near a three-week low on Wednesday after falling 0.2% on Tuesday, weighed down by lower Treasury yields and retreating crude prices. The dollar index was steady at 101.78. The Australian dollar rose 0.1% to $0.7013, just below the prior session's high of $0.7017, after Reserve Bank of Australia Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser said at a Citi conference the inflation outlook looked "materially worse," leaving him unsure whether the central bank would need to raise rates next month. The greenback was little changed at 158.33 yen, steady at $1.1229 per euro and $1.33735 versus sterling. The euro remained under scrutiny as France braces for further anti-government protests, with the government saying it will deploy troops to reinforce police for demonstrations planned on Saturday. The Fed, ECB and Bank of Japan announce policy decisions on consecutive days starting next Wednesday, with traders expecting no rate changes. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand and Bank of Canada also decide policy the same day as the Fed, with markets betting on quarter-point hikes by both.
