General Motors said Tuesday it will invest more than $2 billion over the next several years in the Lansing, Michigan, region, including $1.25 billion to prepare its Delta Township Assembly plant for future vehicle production, as the automaker moves to add hybrid-electric vehicles to its lineup. GM is working with the U.S. Department of Energy to restructure a previously awarded $500 million Domestic Manufacturing Conversion Grant, awarded under the Biden administration to convert a different Lansing factory for EVs, and direct those funds to hybrid production. The funds were never released, GM said. The Lansing Delta Township plant builds the gas-powered Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia and produced a record 291,000 vehicles in 2025. A Reuters report, citing anonymous sources, said GM plans hybrid versions of those three models. GM declined to specify timing but said details would come closer to launch. GM has lagged rivals in hybrids; Toyota leads U.S. hybrid sales, followed by Honda, while Ford sold about 228,000 hybrids in 2025.
