OpenAI and Google announced Wednesday that OpenAI's most advanced AI models, including GPT-6 Astra, and its Codex coding agent will be offered through Google Cloud in the coming weeks, deepening ties between the rivals and underscoring how major cloud providers are becoming key sales channels for top AI developers. Enterprise customers can buy the models via Google Cloud Marketplace and pay using committed cloud spending, lowering procurement barriers. Clients in heavily regulated industries can run OpenAI models through Google's access controls, data governance tools and infrastructure to build agent-driven workflows. The move follows the April expiration of OpenAI's exclusive distribution arrangement with Microsoft (MSFT), after which OpenAI expanded to Amazon's (AMZN) AWS and now Alphabet's (GOOGL) Google Cloud. Google struck a cloud agreement with OpenAI last year to supply additional computing resources. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian has said the platform welcomes any model favored by developers. Cloud providers typically take a cut of platform sales. Reuters-cited IPO filings show Anthropic, backed by Amazon and Google, drew 47% of 2025 revenue from those two clouds.
