OpenAI to Sell Frontier Models on Google Cloud in Enterprise Push
OpenAI will make its frontier AI models and Codex coding agent available through Google Cloud in the coming weeks, the companies said Wednesday, deepening ties between two rivals as cloud providers become key distributors of top AI models. The partnership brings models including GPT-6 Astra to Google Cloud's Model Garden, letting customers purchase them via Google Cloud Marketplace and apply existing cloud spending commitments, according to a company blog post. Regulated-industry customers gain access through Google Cloud's access controls, data governance tools and infrastructure for building agentic AI workflows. Google is the latest hyperscaler to offer OpenAI models after OpenAI's exclusive distribution arrangement with Microsoft expired in April. OpenAI has since expanded to Amazon Web Services. The arrangement reflects a broader shift in which hyperscalers serve as main commercial channels for frontier AI labs, typically taking a cut of platform sales. Anthropic drew 47% of its 2025 revenue from Amazon and Google cloud platforms, according to its IPO filing reviewed by Reuters.
