OpenAI will make its frontier AI models and Codex coding tools available on Google Cloud, extending its reach to customers of all three major U.S. cloud providers, the companies announced Wednesday. Under the agreement, Google Cloud customers can purchase OpenAI models through Google's Model Garden and Marketplace, including by drawing on existing cloud spending commitments. The models will also be integrated into Google's Antigravity development environment and Gemini Agent, with general availability planned in the coming weeks. The deal follows OpenAI's expansion onto Amazon Web Services earlier this year, after changes to its Microsoft partnership opened the door to broader cloud distribution. For Google, the arrangement means selling a competitor's models alongside its own Gemini offerings. Mike Leone, VP and analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, said the deal signals confidence for Google, since "Gemini now has to win those customers with OpenAI sitting right next to it." He added that competitive advantage will increasingly favor whoever best handles customer data, governance and costs.
