Gavi and UNICEF agreed to cut the price of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine, marketed as Mosquirix, by about 40%, to EUR 5.50 per dose, with the lower price expected to take effect in early 2027. The organizations said the reduction is expected to save approximately $50 million between 2027 and 2029, subject to regulatory and manufacturing milestones. Mosquirix was originally developed by GSK plc (GSK) and is being transitioned to Bharat Biotech for future supply. It is one of two World Health Organization-recommended malaria vaccines for children. The savings could fund a full four-dose course for up to one million additional children or let countries expand other routine childhood immunizations. UNICEF has procured and delivered more than 74 million doses since rollout began in 2024, and malaria vaccination is now part of routine immunization in 25 African countries. The agreement is backed by the International Finance Facility for Immunisation and supports Gavi's goal of vaccinating 50 million more children against malaria by 2030.
