Anduril to Invest $3.7 Billion in Baltimore Submarine Component Plant
Anduril Industries plans to invest $3.7 billion in a submarine-component manufacturing facility at Tradepoint Atlantic, the multimodal logistics hub at the Port of Baltimore, creating 3,100 permanent jobs. The 2 million-square-foot Arsenal-2 plant is expected to begin operations in 2030. The facility will make components for the U.S. Navy's Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines, shipping them to Huntington Ingalls (NYSE: HII) in Newport, Va., and General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) Electric Boat in Groton, Ct., for final assembly. Anduril will start with smaller parts such as torpedo tubes before expanding to bows and sterns. The Navy awarded Anduril a $2.9 billion contract. Maryland officials called the project the state's largest single private investment in more than a decade. Maryland and Baltimore County will match up to 13% of Anduril's investment, subject to legislative approval. President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Tradepoint Atlantic on Oct. 6.
