Spartan Carrier Deploys AI Agents to Scale 150-Truck Fleet Without Adding Dispatchers
Spartan Carrier Group, a Fort Worth, Texas-based automotive freight hauler, has begun using AI agents built inside Alvys's transportation management system to automate manual dispatch work, its first agent generating hourly customer reports previously compiled by hand in Excel. The carrier, which grew from one truck to about 150 in five years with Toyota as its largest customer, aims to double volume without hiring additional dispatchers. Vice President of Operations Kendrick Dawson said the reporting agent matched dispatchers' output "almost 100%" and frees roughly 17% of a dispatcher's day. A second agent targeting driver payroll, which involves relay handoffs across six drivers and extra-board pay adjustments, has not yet been tested; Dawson expects it to cut payroll processing time at least in half. Alvys launched Foundry in August to let carriers build AI agents within its TMS and named Spartan an early customer. Dawson, who described himself as "not a tech guy," plans to have dispatchers and field operators edit the workflows themselves.
