PCL Delivers $250M Amtrak Seattle Maintenance Facility On Time, $50M Under Budget
PCL Construction has completed a $250 million Amtrak train facility in Seattle, finishing on schedule and $50 million under budget, Amtrak announced Oct. 23. The Maintenance and Inspection Facility will support the new Airo fleet that debuted on the Amtrak Cascades route last month. The 100,000-square-foot building, 700 feet long, is Amtrak's first facility able to inspect, service and perform heavy maintenance on a full trainset under one roof, using three tracks. It opens in phases through year-end. Edmonton, Alberta-based PCL, with U.S. headquarters in Denver, won the $300 million contract in fall 2024. Amtrak spokesperson Cheyenne Matthews said the $50 million in savings will fund other rail investments. The project employed over 40 subcontractors and created about 120 construction jobs, using 12 million pounds of structural steel and 4,000 linear feet of rail.
