US consumers plan to spend an average of $285 per household on Halloween in 2026, with total holiday spending projected at $13.5 billion, up from $13.1 billion a year earlier, according to Deloitte and National Retail Federation surveys released in October 2026. Deloitte's survey of 1,500 US consumers found 34% plan to spend more than last year, allocating $57 to costumes, $54 to decorations, $48 to candy and food, and $32 to social outings. About 67% will shop in stores, led by grocery (55%) and big box retailers (47%). Forty-two percent expect the economy to worsen, and one in five will use buy-now-pay-later financing. The NRF reported 49% of shoppers planned to buy Halloween items by September. Bain & Company projects US holiday spending will exceed $1 trillion for the first time in November and December, up 4.5% year over year.
