The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has selected a joint venture of Jacobs and PCL Construction as progressive design-build contractor for a $1 billion nutrient reduction project at the Southeast Treatment Plant, the largest wastewater facility in the city. The upgrade will add advanced treatment capabilities to cut nutrient discharge at a plant that handles nearly 80% of San Francisco's wastewater, with the new process designed to meet updated state and federal environmental requirements. Construction will proceed while the plant remains in operation. Dallas-based Jacobs will also support SFPUC's Social Impact Partnership through investments in community health, education and workforce development. The award adds to Jacobs' water infrastructure portfolio, which includes a $185 million groundwater desalter expansion in Torrance, California, launched in June with McCarthy Building Cos.
